My name is Michael Durocher and I'm a full-time AV Support Specialist at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. I have been in this position ever since I was hired by Durham College back in 2004. Also, I was a full-time student at Durham College in the 3-year Electronic Engineering Technology diploma program (1994 to 1997). My passions are PCB repairs, SMT/THT soldering, etc. I absolutely love repairing any electronic device (such as professional AV equipment like audio amplifiers, LCD/DLP projectors, matrix switchers, etc.).
My workbench is primarily designed/setup for repairing & testing professional AV equipment, and not so much for designing it. As you can see from the photos I've attached, my workbench has lots of professional soldering tools but no testing instruments. I have been reluctant to ask my boss for the purchase of high-quality testing instruments, as they're usually quite expensive and our department's budget is always stretched very thin. I don't want to be the one who monopolizes most of our department's budget with my purchase requests for testing instruments. To that end, a lot of the tools you see in the photos I've attached (such as the microscope for example) are my own tools...I purchased them with my own money, in order to save money for our department's budget.
I'm the only one in our department with the soldering skills/enthusiasm who performs repairs to our AV equipment. Having a person (me) on-site/in-house here at Durham College, that can perform repairs to the AV equipment across campus, saves our department/the college lots of time, money, headaches, etc. It sure would be nice to win these wonderful, high-quality testing instruments and finally equip my workbench with the best name in testing instruments...Keysight.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Best Regards,
Michael Durocher
